Critical Communications World CCW 2023 is coming to Finland for the first time. The conference, which is arranged at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre 23 – 25 May, is very timely in the current world situation with its themes and technologies presenting digital security and security of supply. Finland’s partners include Suomen Erillisverkot, a state-owned special-purpose company that offers telecommunications and situational picture services to authorities and security of supply critical companies.

The World Circular Economy Forum 2023, WCEF 2023, which is organised by Nordic Innovation and the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra together with the European Investment Bank and other international partners, will also open in May. Organized on 30 – 31 May, this congress invites companies, financiers and especially young people to examine the potential and bottlenecks of developing circular economy solutions.

The premiere of the new Radical Health Festival Helsinki 2023 will be on 12 – 14 June and it unites health sector eco systems across Europe to solve health sector problems in an increasingly digitally driven world. Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre’s partner in the arrangements is éditohealth.

In October, AEC 2023 Alzheimer Europe Conference, the main event of the roof organisation of European memory associations, will be arranged at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre (16 – 18 October). Cyber Security Nordic, one of Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre’s own programmes, will additionally be arranged in November (7 – 9 November).

    Economic impact 15.5 million euros

International congresses bring experts and know-how to the host cities, but also significant income. According to a recent delegate survey by Finland Convention Bureau (FCB), a participant leaves an average of 1,405 euros in the host country during a congress. The financial impact of Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre’s congresses will thus be more than 15 million euros this year.

“Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre works closely with universities, scientific societies and other scientific communities in congress procurement. In addition to the congress programme, the participants value company visits and visits to local research institutes. Also, the presentations of the host country and Helsinki is always included in the programme of international congresses in one form or another,” says Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre’s Congress Manager Kaiju Pitkänen.

Leaving a positive trace of the event on the city is an increasingly important part of congress planning.

“In addition to environmental impacts and, e.g., food waste, we also take care of social responsibility, for example by trying to employ those in need of special support or, for example, to collect funds for socially relevant projects that are connected to the congress theme,” says Congress Manager Paula Blomster.

Finland is safe, clean and friendly

According to FCB’s delegate survey, international congress guests are particularly satisfied with Finland’s safety, service orientation and local transport. Friendly Finns, local food, nature, clean air, architecture and local experiences such as the sauna and the archipelago are appreciated.

In the latest measurement (6/2021) by UIA (Union of International Associations), Finland is the most popular congress country in the Nordic countries and ranked 15th in the international comparison of congress countries. Helsinki, on the other hand, is tied for a 13th place together with Copenhagen in the city comparison.
