Pressemeddelelse fra Messukeskus
The Signals trend exhibition is a regular feature at Habitare, a top event in the interior decoration, furniture and design sector. The exhibition will again look at what is new in home and interior design, as well as at the related social phenomena and megatrends. Held since 2015, the Signals exhibition, put together for Habitare by the trend analyst and designer Susanna Björklund and the interior architect (SIO) Sisse Collander, is an impressive and multi-layered display. In addition to the curatorial duo, there is a production team and a large number of volunteers working behind the exhibition.
“There are different levels to the Signals exhibition. If you are interested in colours, interior design ideas, and interesting design, the exhibition delivers them. If you want to dive deeper, Signals also sheds light on the phenomena that influence the ways in which we live and how trends are generated. Visitors can look forward to fireworks of colour, edginess, playfulness, roughness, and a multitude of things to see”, says Björklund.
Uncertainty in society reflected in interior design trends
The Signals exhibition offers a glimpse into the trends and colours of the coming year, while it also explores how trends emerge.
“A variety of phenomena influence the ways in which we live, which are primarily linked to our emotions. Recent challenges, such as the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis, and before these, the pandemic, as well as Brexit and world politics overall, not to mention the effects of climate change, have shaken the sense of basic security for many. As a result of all this, people have started to rethink their values at home, too”, says Susanna Björklund.
Trending phenomena now include people seeking cosiness and warmth in decor, individuality and rich details, and a preference for classics. The colours have shifted from being candy-like to being more muted, but people are mixing things up with the use of bright colours, such as ultramarine and sky blue.
“It is natural that in an uncertain world the home becomes more important, and people want to remodel and make their homes look like them. At the same time, making responsible choices has become more important, and it is necessary to take this into account in home decoration. Instead of falling for fads, you should buy quality, only buy things you like, and think about whether you can mend the things that you own”, says Björklund. “Sustainable development and transparency are intrinsic values that we all need to pursue more resolutely.”
“As always, at Signals, we want to offer unique experiences for visitors to experience with all their senses. The attractiveness of spaces emerges from the whole: which colours are juxtaposed or how surprising objects or furniture combine to give people new perspectives on the decoration of their homes. We want to encourage people to be playful and create moods. Each room also has its own fragrance, and a playlist that goes with each theme. This year, we have paid particular attention to surface materials and structures: paint and wallpaper are not the only options for home decorators”, says Sisse Collander.
Susanna Björklund will give a lecture on the topic on the Arena stage on Wednesday 7 September at 14:00-15:00 and on Saturday 10 September at 15:00-16:00. There will be a press conference on 7 September at 15:30.
Featuring three themes: Magic, Genuine and Safety
Related to the three themes, the Signals exhibition will feature three different visual worlds that elaborate ideas related to the themes.
“The theme of Magic lets creativity bloom and stretches the boundaries of traditional good taste. The theme of Genuine, in turn, features handiwork, handicrafts and classics. The theme of Safety is about a dark-toned plentiful nest with splashes of colour accents. You can sit in the yard and enjoy the atmosphere of our green oasis”, say Björklund and Collander.
- The Signals exhibition will be open at Habitare throughout the event, from 7 to 11 September 2022.
