Climate change and sustainable growth are the biggest challenges for the whole
tourism industry. To overcome them and meet the customer expectations we need more cross-border collaboration, exchange of knowledge and joint development.

Labarile from European Commission, Sustainable Travel Development Manager Liisa Mäkelä from Visit Finland and Head of Sustainability Katarina Thorstensson from Gothenburg & Co.

The webinar aims to bring travel industry developers together to build further
and broader cooperation for the future.

    – Carbon neutral tourism is a joint challenge of utmost urgency. To succeed in tackling it we need local, national and international collaboration,
learning and rapid actions. We wish to part of the global network in finding and
utilizing best solutions towards smart destinations and sustainable travel industry,
Project Manager Matti Pollari from Visit Tampere concludes.

The event aims to intensify the well-established cooperation between the cities and to strengthen the international network to solve the sustainability challenges of tourism.

    – The objective for a Smart Destination is to support visitors and tourism industry to have the best and most sustainable
experiences. With the help of digital resources, smart destinations can offer visitors a great stay and the
industry can invest in new offerings based on gathered data and information. Says, Niklas Masuch, Project Manager, Gothenburg & Co, A municipal DMO company, City of Gothenburg

    – Sustainability is in the core of everything we do in Helsinki – just like in Tampere and Gothenburg alike. In the global perspective we are all small destinations and this forces as to
    collaborate
with each other. These three cities can all bring something new to the table- whether it being data management, tourism safety or carbon footprint reduction. Together our common goal is to lead the way in the smart tourism development. Our commitment on the subject has been proven as both Helsinki and Gothenburg has been elected as the European Capitals of Smart Tourism,
Jonna Pitkänen from the City of Helsinki says.
