– verden første sociale platform til udvikling og produktion af fysiske produkter – kan med stolthed annoncere København som hjemby for sit nye globale hovedkvarter. Wikifactory er en høj-vækst tech startup, som er aktiv i mere end 190 lande med mere end 80.000 aktive medlemmer, der bruger det fælles og integrerede “arbejdsrum” til at udvikle og prototype fysiske produkter i samarbejde, alt sammen online. Som et samlingspunkt for global innovation af fremtidens produkter og et online alternativ til verdens skrøbelige supply-chain, vil Wikifactory skabe det globale ‘Internet of Production’ fra Danmarks hovedstad.
Danmarks relativt neutrale position i handelskrigen mellem USA og Kina, og det at Danmark historiske har skabt nogle af verdens mest beundrede design-og teknologivirksomheder, giver Danmark en unik position i konkurrencen om at tiltrække virksomheder. Som hjemsted for højt specialiseret produktion, og med vigtige netværk som MADE Manufacturing Academy of Denmark, Odense Robotics – The Danish Robot and Drone Cluster, SoundHub i Struer, og med videncentre som Teknologisk Institut og flere top-universiteter, udgør Danmark et attraktivt fundament for lanceringen af en virksomhed med Wikifactorys perspektiv og rækkevidde.
Indtil nu har Wikifactory haft hovedkvarter i Hong Kong, med ansatte fordelt i Madrid, London og Shenzhen. Lokale og globale ændringer har imidlertid gjort Hong Kong til en mindre optimal base for forretningen. Blandt kandidaterne til et nyt hovedkvarter var Singapore, San Francisco, London og Amsterdam. Men Wikifactory’s stiftere blev i sidste ende overbevist af Danmarks høje globale rangeringer, det progressive forretningsmiljø og de betydelige ressourcer som er til rådighed for digitale virksomheder med høj innovation og vækst. Institutioner såsom Copenhagen Capacity har i den forbindelse været behjælpelige med informationer, analyser og værdifuld rådgivning.
Nicolai Peitersen, Wikifactory’s dansk medstifter og bestyrelsesformand samt forfatter af The Ethical Economy (Columbia University Press, NY, 2013), udtaler: “Efter mere end to årtier i henholdsvis Kina, UK og Frankrig er jeg begejstret for at tage vores virksomhed tilbage til mit hjemland. Ikke kun som en stolt dansker, men fordi mine medstiftere er helt overbeviste om de objektive fordele ved en etablering i Danmark. Allerede tilbage i 2019 da vi blev inviteret til at være værter for vores ‘Internet of Production’ topmøde ved den årlige TechFestival i København, vidste vi, at vores forretningsværdier og Danmark passede til hinanden.”

Wikifactory’s globale fællesskab, som består af alt fra dygtige ingeniører, produktdesignere, hardware-startups og producenter, har en månedlig vækst på 15 %. Dermed forventes det samlede antal brugere at nå 300.000 i slutningen af året, hvilket underbygges af mere end 4.000 færdiggjorte produkter, som er udviklet virtuelt på platformen og har udmøntet sig i alt fra robotter, elektriske køretøjer til droner og agri-tech. Fra bæredygtige energiapparater og laboratorieudstyr til 3D-printere; fra intelligente møbler og biotech-baserede modematerialer til medicinsk udstyr, herunder personlige værnemidler og respiratorer. Ingen sektor efterlades uberørt.
Wikifactory anvendesaf MIT’s Fablab netværk med 3.000 Makerspaces over hele verden; og som virtuel arbejdsplads for organisationer som Field Ready, ingeniørverdenens svar på Médecins Sans Frontieres.Dermed skaber Wikifactory vejen for en ny industriel model, såvel som for fremtidens ‘Big industry’.
Niels Christian Nielsen, bestyrelsesmedlem og Silicon Valley baseret bestyrelsesmedlem i flere virksomheder, herunder Wikimedia Foundations Endowment, udtaler: “Ikke alene har Wikifactory haft succes med hensyn til vækst, men de er samtidig forkæmpere for en ambitiøs forretningsmodel for bæredygtig produktion og en cirkulær økonomi. Wikifactory, som lancerede sin Beta version i maj 2019, har for nylig fuldført sin seneste finansieringsrunde på 3 millioner dollars og sikret mere end 4.5 millioner dollars i seed-finansiering fra impact investorer i Europa samt USA. Med den seneste investering vil virksomheden bygge en kvalitetssikret markedsplads for producenter for at forbinde tre markedspladser til et samlet markedsnetværk. Med servere i Kina har Wikifactory adgang til hardware hovedstaden Shenzhen, hvilket sætter Wikifactory i en unik position til at udvide sine funktioner. Efter en serie A investering forventer virksomhedenat kunne fjerne yderligere barrierer for deltagelse i den industrielle udvikling, så alle, hvor som helst, kan lave stort set hvad som helst blot med en bærbar og en internetforbindelse.

WIKIFACTORY IS MOVING ITS GLOBAL HEADQUARTERS FROM HONG KONG TO DENMARK
Copenhagen, 3 February, 2021 – Today, – the world’s first social platform for collaborative product development, is excited to announce Copenhagen as the new home of its headquarters. A high-growth tech start-up, Wikifactory is active in over 190 countries with more than 80,000 subscribers using its all-in-one workspace to develop and prototype real products collaboratively, all in one online process. A global innovation hub for the products of tomorrow, and a bold, online alternative to the world’s fragile supply chain model, Wikifactory will be building the Internet of Production from the heart of Denmark.
Denmark’s relative neutrality toward the US-China trade war and its history of incubating some of the world’s most admired design and technology enterprises gives the country a unique, competitive edge in the current climate. Hosting advanced and highly specialised manufacturing, and diverse networks including MADE, AM Hub, the robotics cluster in Odense, SoundHub in Struer, and knowledge centres such as Teknologisk Institut and several of the world’s top-ranking universities, makes Denmark a natural launchpad for an enterprise of Wikifactory’s scope.
Until recently, Wikifactory was headquartered in Hong Kong, with its team spread across Madrid, London, and Shenzhen. However local and global developments have made Hong Kong sub-optimal for its core business operations. Among the candidates for relocation were Singapore, San Francisco, London, and Amsterdam. But the founders were won over by Denmark’s high global rankings, progressive business landscape and its vast resources for high-performing digital ventures. We also felt welcomed by institutions such as Copenhagen Capacity, who provided information, benchmarks and valuable advice.
Nicolai Peitersen, Wikifactory’s Danish-born co-founder, executive chairman and author of The Ethical Economy (Columbia University Press, NY, 2013), comments: “After more than two decades living and working abroad in China, the UK and France, I’m very excited to be bringing the business back to my home country. Not only as a proud Dane, but because of the country’s pure merit recognised by my international co-founders. Back in 2019 when we were invited to host our Internet of Production event at the annual TechFestival in Copenhagen, we knew already then that Denmark was a strong fit with our business values.”

Wikifactory’s global community of skilled engineers, product designers, hardware start-ups and makers is growing at a staggering rate of 15% month on month. Global subscription is set to reach over 300,000 by the end of the year, and already more than 4,000 finished products have been developed virtually from robotics and electric vehicles to drones and agri-tech. From sustainable energy appliances and lab equipment, to 3D printers themselves; and from smart furniture and biotech fashion materials to medical supplies, including vital PPE and ventilators. No industry is left untouched.
Adopted by the global Fablab network of 3,000 makerspaces borne out of MIT, and powering organisations such as Field Ready who are the engineering equivalent of Médecins Sans Frontieres, Wikifactory is innovating Big Industry and paving the way for a new industrial model.

Wikifactory, which launched its Beta in May 2019, has recently closed its latest USD 3 million funding round, securing more than USD 4.5 million in seed funding to date from impact investors across Europe and the US. With the investment, the company will build a quality-assured manufacturing marketplace to connect three marketplaces into a single Market Network. With mirrored servers in China to open up access to its hardware capital Shenzhen, Wikifactory is set to expand its features after Series A, with a vision to remove barriers to participate in industry so that everyone, everywhere can make almost anything with just a laptop and an internet connection.
