PRM / The Danish Capital on level with Nice and Venice

Pressemeddelelse fra Sparta Atletik og Motion

‘An IAAF Road Race Label is given to the world’s leading road races. A label means that the event meets a series of high standards when it comes to security and runners’ experience. The label is also only assigned to races where the elite maintains a high level, and where there is a simple and clear guide for both athletes, fans, and media. Furthermore, the race needs to comply with the IAAF competition rules, the local municipality has to support the event, and the organizer is obligated to promote the sport and take concrete steps to further the global battle against doping’, says IAAF president Sebastian Coe.

    Only one in the North

The Telenor Copenhagen Marathon, in cooperation with The Frederiksberg Municipality, The Copenhagen Municipality, Wonderful Copenhagen, Sport Event Denmark and Dansk Atletik Forbund meets these requirements. Therefore, the 2019 race has been assigned the IAAF Road Race Bronze Label, which for the past couple of years has been an important goal for the event. The Telenor CPH Marathon is thus the only Northern marathon race to make the exclusive list of marathon races meeting the requirements put forth by the IAAF.

‘It is an acknowledgement that we greatly appreciate, as it confirms that our race meets a high, international level, and that we – together with our collaborators – have managed to further develop this event, even bringing in more and more tourists for the benefit of the entire capital. We have accomplished a series of initiatives these past few years, making the route better and faster, gaining a stronger elite, and building our digital service to its peak among other things, and that has proven effective’, says Dorte Vibjerg, director of Sparta Atletik & Motion.

The IAAF is also pleased that the Danish capital now has a Bronze Label marathon race.

‘We congratulate the organizers of the Telenor Copenhagen Marathon on the well-deserved bronze label and wish them and their participants the very best for their 40th version of the race’, says Sebastian Coe.

The 2019 Telenor CPH Marathon is run on May 19th, starting and finishing on Islands Brygge.
